LNER / British Railways carriage print - Boston, Lincolnshire by Freda Marston, ROI - 1947
For many years many British railway carriages were graced by a series of artworks that fitted under the luggage racks designed to show the operators territory off to good effect - this c1947 view of Boston in Lincolnshire, seen across the River Witham, is by Freda Marston. She was one of only a few female artists to undertake these works and this appears to have been commissioned by the London & North Eastern Railway in c1947 just before the nationalisation of the company into British Railways in 1948. The plate was printed by Waterlows.
