Dan Cruickshank

Maison Bertaux, pâtisserie française, 27-28 Greek Street, east side, Soho.

I got here on the recommendation of Still Open: The Guide to Traditional London Shops.

The man in the white jacket I sat next to. I admire him deeply. Others do too and find him very cuddly. It is no-one less than the architectural historian Dan Cruickshank. He opened my eyes to the beauty of so many architectural wonders around the world.

I own a copy of his DVD and book Around the World in 80 Treasures plus a book which he edited: Architecture: The Critics' Choice: 150 Masterpieces of Western Architecture Selected and Defined by the Experts.

I had the audacity to address him. I hope he has forgiven me.

He showed me some books on Babylon. He did a TV program once on the deplorable state of Iraq's archeological sites and museums. Babylon will be the name of an exhibition in the British Museum from 13 November 2008 to 15 March 2009. Maybe he is involved.
