Amos Mattox House, built 1880, Bryan County, Georgia

Moved to Greenfield Village, Dearborn, Michigan

-----------

The Mattox Home was built in Bryan County, Georgia in about 1880. The walls of the Mattox Home was lined with newspapers to insulate against cool nights and winters. The license plates in their house were commonly used to mend rooms, walls, and doors in the Mattox Home.

Amos Mattox, his wife Grace Mattox, and his six children stayed in the Mattox Home. The Mattox family cooked, did laundry, and usually relaxed with the family out on the porches.

Amos Mattox worked many jobs during the Great Depression: farmer, barber, preacher, and a shoemaker.
