Cazenovia Library & Museum - Cazenovia, NY

Front View - Cazenovia Library and Museum - This stately 1830 Greek Revival style building has a temple front with large Ionic columns. It was previously a private residence built by entrepeneur John Williams. In 1890 it was purchased by Cazenovia benefactor Robert J. Hubbard, who was one of Cazenovia's wealthiest men. In November of 1890 he donated the building to the Library Society to be used as the village's public library. Inside the library, there are several rooms which are used as a museum, dubbed the "Museum of Oddities". Located in the front part of the library, these rooms pay tribute to the unbridled tastes of collector Robert J. Hubbard. Mr. Robert Hubbard, had an intetest in odd and exotic things, particularly with an Egyptian heritage. He decided that the library needed a mummy so he went to Egypt and purchased one in 1884 for $2,000, as well as other Egyptian relics. Located at 100 Albany Street in Cazenovia, NY. (Caz/81)
