Providence Old Union Station

The upgraded Providence Union Station building opened in 1898, but with the decline in passenger rail traffic, the City planners sought to remove the network of elevated tracks that restricted the development of the central business district. The tracks were rerouted below ground and a new station was opened in 1986.

The redevelopment of the old Union Station has been a protracted affair and is still underway. One current attraction already in business is the Union Station Brewery, a popular venue.
