The Eye Of London is the vision of David Marks and Julia Barfield, a husband and wife architect team. The wheel design was used as a metaphor of the turning of the century.

It is the UK’s most popular paid for visitor attraction, visited by over 3.5 million people a year.

When I took the shot , I was very happy to see the outcome, but when I downloaded it, my happiness went away…the whole pictures had millions of burnt pixels…..somehow my image sensor had dust, so the long exposure created hundreds of burned pixels….

For sometime I thought , this is a gone case, then on second thought I thought what the hell !! Let me try to recover it in Photoshop….Well !! this is a full two day effort on Photoshop….I’m happy with the results….but I agree, you still might see some rough areas….they are nothing but signs of “used to be very bad areas……”

The shot

Standard 3 exposures [-2,0,+2EV] in IS0100/RAW at f/18, on a tripod.

Photomatix

Tonemapped using the detail enhancer.

Photoshop post processing:

Dodging and burning of the colors.

Stamping out burnt pixels, replacing with good ones

A bit of noise reduction on the blues, red.

Unsharp mask at end.
