Pontiac Solstice GXP Turbo Edition coupe
Pontiac's second (and GM's fourth) foray into the low-priced, 4-cylinder sports car field, following the original Opel GT, sold here through Buick dealers, Pontiac's own mid-engine Fiero, and the mid-engine Opel GT reboot which was not sold in the United States.
We'll never know how big a success the Solstice would have been; it's introduction was delayed again and again by development snafus; sales declined precipitously after the initial high demand surrounding its 2006 debut, and it was ultimately a victim of GM's bankruptcy-related 2009 decision to kill off both Pontiac and the Saturn division, home to the Solstice's fraternal twin, the Sky.
But the Fiero's legacy is safe; in its five years on the market, it sold almost 350,000 cars, more than the original and reborn Opel GT, Solstice and Sky combined.
