The Three Stooges
-------------------------------------------
I've just returned from a wonderful weekend in The Lake District. The forecast had suggested a wet Friday, followed by an overcast Saturday and then a dry and bright Sunday (the day we were due to leave). As it happened, all 3 days were dry, bright and glorious :)
We set off early on Friday morning, which gave us enough time to park up in Patterdale and head up to the summit of Place Fell. I'd never been up high on the eastern side Ullswater before, and the views certainly didn't disappoint. We were treated to a great view of the snow covered Helvellyn range and also lovely views looking back down south to Brotherswater. Yes, the camera came along and I got some nice pictures, but most of all it was just lovely to be out in such a beautiful place on a stunner of a day. Unbelievably, we didn't see a single soul and had the mountain to ourselves.
Saturday was a 5am alarm to get to Blea Tarn for sunrise - a lovely start to the day. We then moved onto the second part of our plan which was a hike up to the summit of Lingmoor Fell. Again, somewhere I've not been before and we had a wonderful time, looking back and admiring the views back down to Blea Tarn with the Langdales in the background. Absolutely stunning. Again, we had the place to ourselves and it was a most enjoyable morning.
After going back to Ambleside and getting some brunch, we decided to head up to the summit of Holme Fell and then have a wander to see if we could find anything for sunset. We knew that Holme Fell is one of those places where you need time to find compositions, so we gave ourselves plenty of it, but even then we struggled a bit. Partly because a band of cloud appeared in the horizon, blocking out the light, and partly because we were yomping around the 'wrong' part of the fell. Despite this, we massively enjoyed ourselves and the experience whet our appetite for more.
So on Sunday (our final day), we set a 4:45 alarm as we wanted to head up Holme Fell again, but this time approaching from a different direction. Luckily, we found the 'right' area of the fell and we had a fantastic morning running around like headless chickens chasing the light.
Needless to say, I have loads of images to look over, but for now, here's a quick one from our final morning on Holme Fell.
