NER Clerestory Bogie Composite
Standing on Rowley Station sidings at Beamish Museum is 1903-built North Eastern Railway clerestory bogie composite coach No.3071 (although the livery would suggest, incorrectly, that it is No.818). I understand that the confusion arose because parts of 818 were extensively used in the original restoration of this coach. Very little, if any, of 818 remains.
The coach is in need of a considerable degree of further restoration but it is hoped that it will eventually be put into regular service at the museum.
