Water damage and plaster repair - 1
A while back, we had a leak in the roof just next to the chimney. Water leaked around the chimney and then onto the ceiling and behind the wall in one of the upstairs bedrooms. I needed to repair the plaster work, so I watched about 8 hours of YouTube plaster repair videos and determined that I could fix the problem, myself.
Shot 1 shows the project before I cleared the wall and ceiling of crumbling plaster.
Shot 2 shows the project after all of the bad plaster had been peeled away including some plaster tape that had been used before I bought the house 30 years ago.
Shot 3 shows the surface after I had applied a product that would allow the plaster to adhere to the wall and to the bare lathe work.
Shot 4 shows the areas covered with several coats of fresh plaster.
Shot 5 is the finished product after a couple of coats of paint.
I think I did ok on the project. Up close, I can see some places that are not completely flat and smooth, but overall, I'm pleased with the effort. I'm definitely not a master plasterer -- that takes many years to accomplish, and I now have an great appreciation for their vocation.
