Whimbrel (Numenius phaeopus)
The Whimbrel above is a member of the Curlew family which includes 9 species. Unfortunately, two of these are likely extinct. I consider it a special treat when we get to see one. On our recent Texas trip, we also got to see the Long-billed Curlew. (Double Treat). During winter and migration, the Whimbrel may be seen along coastal areas. They nest on mossy tundra in Canada and Alaska.
