The myth has fallen - Rock Partridge

Alectoris graeca (Perdrix bartavelle) - Velo Blato Reserve, Pag island, Croatia

This european endemic bird is quasi mythical in France and in my place, where it is a very elusive dweller of the rocky high mountain slopes. So it was a surprise to realize how common and visible it is in Croatia.

There, it is also leaving in warm, flat scrubland and rocky pasture along the mediteranean cost. Particulary there is numerous individuals among the stone walls built by farmer to mark their fields limits and keeps sheeps togeather on Pag, an island connected to mainland by a bridge in the Zadar's region.

This much sought-after species became within few days almost ordinary to me, but still it looks wonderful, and stay shy, reason why I can not get closer for a better picture.

To be noticed : differentiated from Red-legged Partridge through the lack of scaled pattern on the neck.
