The Seaside is a historic medical facility built in 1934 at 36 Shore Road in Waterford, CT. It was the first institution designed for heliotropic treatment of children suffering from tuberculosis which involved spending prolonged periods of time in the sun, in hopes that the exposure might help cure the patient. In 1958, it was used as an elderly home for three years, after which it was used to treat people with developmental disabilities until 1996.
