End of our wall walk, Röderturm

Our walk on the Rothenburg wall came to an end at the Röderturm on the east side of town, some 45 minutes and a bit less than one kilometer from where it began at Kilengentor. The Röderturm, or Woodsman Tower, built in the early 13th century, is just one of some 70 watch towers originally constructed along the perimeter of the city. Of these, 42 have been preserved and still exist. The Röderturm is reputed to have been the most impressive. It is the only one that is accessible for climbing to the top, but unfortunately, we did not have time for that visit. This view from the wall right next to the tower, which is partially visible on the left, looks up Rödergasse, another picture-perfect fairytale kind of street in this beautiful picture-perfect fairytale town!
