Dog Tags of Utah's Fallen

Memorial Day 2024

Every military branch uses identification tags, more commonly known as dog tags, with its members. Dog tags came about during the Civil War because soldiers feared their bodies would go unidentified if they were killed in action.

The dog tags in the image above are marked with the names of Utah's fallen military members who served in Korea, Vietnam, Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Afghanistan, and Iraq -- up to May 2016. Family members of the fallen assisted in hanging these dog tags and signing the memorial to our fallen. Hill Air Force Base, Davis County, Utah
