Aberllefenni Slate Quarries - Ceunant Ddu incline drumhouse (1993)
A 1993 view of the main incline on level 3 of the Ceunant Ddu workings. Built around the early 1860s, the fine drumhouse has a wooden drum still in situ and stands on the edge of the large waste tip. Note the long brake lever and the well-made landing stage. Located just to the right of camera are a row of 4 gwaliau where trimming of slates took place, and directly behind the drumhouse is the large waste tip that emanates from the open upper workings. Referring to old maps, it seems this incline was out of use by the 1900s - probably following the opening of the lower adits.
