Anglo-Irish Bank: open concept is in fashion?

Knowing that I've a keen interest in bank history, Jonathan drove me here to North Wall Quay to see this shell building. So here is a special thank to Jonathan!! This empty shell would have been the new headquarters of the Anglo-Irish Bank.

But alas, the bank made billions Euros of loans to the red-hot Irish real estate market in the early 2000s. When the bubble burst around 2007, the bad loans depleted the bank's capital and it promptly went bankrupt. The Irish government had to bail out the bank to prevent a complete collapse of the Irish banking sector, and in doing so almost bankrupted Ireland itself, which led to Ireland requiring a bailout from the EU.

What a mess. In any case, the half-finished Anglo-Irish Bank Building remains an empty shell five years after the debt crisis. Anglo-Irish Bank no longer exists, so the site's future remains uncertain.
