Associated caption reads:

Symbolism in the full scope of imaginative expression in ultra-modern design identifies the Orbit department store in Boston. The spectacular display by Beacon Sign Co., Inc., Jamaica Plain, Mass. (Boston) is 65 feet tall and is topped by a 200-foot "orbit" which is constructed of 3-inch aluminum pipe which has been rolled into 20 foot circles and is outlined completely by neon tubing, The modernistic "O" in the center of the "orbit" is rotated on a turntable. The two sign sections are each 33 feet long by 11 feet tall and carry the name in letters 5 feet tall, each equipped with four rows of fluorescent tubing. The signwork is supported by 8-inch steel pipes which are set on a 30 by 30 by 4 foot concrete pod, under which there are four 30 feet deep by 3 foot caissons. The letters on the roof of the building are stainless steel channels with porcelain enamel face inserts equipped with four rows of fluorescent tubing. These letters are 8 feet tall. Albert Myers of Beacon Sign Co. justifiably feels that "this is a very unusual sign."
