Avlon
On April 13, 1998 the MLW A-465 drops down to Avlon with a string of empty reefers bound for Chalkida.
In the clear morning air the still snowcapped mount Dirfys (1743 m) on Evia island is looking nearer than it is.
We stayed there long enough to see the MX627 return with the loaded counterpart. Not that we knew of this train. A daylight freight? Pure strike of luck.
Later that day, after a hop to Bralos, we enjoyed grilled fish for dinner at the Chalkida waterfront. All done by train. And our feet. Those were the days.
