In the 1990s, I attended a talk by the environmentalist Bill McKibben, who was one of the first people to write about the impending climate crisis. He said that of all the things he was going to say, people in the audience would remember at least one thing: that on any given day, one billion people in the world will watch Baywatch. In fact, I still remember that. These Baywatch items were in the window of a Brussels costume shop.
