Good Friday Tornado
taken immediately after the April 10th, 2009 tornado in Murfreesboro, TN. I was driving to Nashville down Medical Center Pkwy when I ran head on into this tornado. As I drove toward it through a parking lot to get to a safe place I really thought it was too close for me to get inside before it would be right on top of me. But I made it to the bank, ditched the car, and ran through the parking lot and into the bank where I sat in a closet with complete strangers as it passed right by us, rattling the whole building.
This tornado was an EF4 tornado (less than 1% of tornadoes are in this high category) with an estimated $41 million in damage.
I was too shaken up to take many pictures, and emergency vehicles were busy trying to work in the disaster so I didn't want to get in the way. So this is one of the only pics I took (out the window of my car as I drove by). Just my little reminder of the experience.
