Leaving the Rhondda

Stagecoach in South Wales Alexander PS-bodied Volvo B10M 20389 survived in service with sister 20392 until January this year.

She was the first of the R- DHB batch to re-enter service at Aberdare depot in 2010 as the second generation of PSs on Service 172 (Aberdare-Rhondda Valleys-Bridgend-Porthcawl). This was after exchanging her dual-purpose seating for a set of bus seats in 'beachball' moquette with one of the M- LAX batch and after receiving an LED destination display. The latter made her unique within the batch and boy was it difficult to photograph her with it functioning when using a fast shutter speed.

After her sale to Ensignbus in January 2015, she has found a new home on school contracts with Richardsons Travel of Midhurst, West Sussex.

My photo was taken in mid June 2012 as she nears the end of the long climb from Maerdy on a 172 journey, about ten minutes from home.

Wonderful Machines.
