James Grant was a Scottish novelist who wrote historical fiction, much of which was based on Scottish history. He also wrote nonfiction history texts. Grant was a relative of Sir Walter Scott. Although his writing achieved some popularity, by the 1880s, this popularity had declined (Watkins).
