Agave flowers

After many years of storing energy,Parry's agave shoots up a stalk, perhaps ten or twelve feet in height. From the stalk, small branches grow straight out. On each little branch a cluster of many buds takes shape which then develops into a large flower cluster, ten or twelve inches across. This is one such cluster. Once it flowers, the plant dies. This shot was taken near Oracle, AZ, in the Peppersauce campground area. Notice the little butterfly.
