A homemaker and writer who works to promote the virtues of Biblical womanhood, Lady Lydia Sherman writes her own blog as well as a column for the website Ladies Against Feminism. Born Lydia McGaughey in the then-territory of Alaska, she was the daughter of a fisherman and the oldest of seven children. Lady Lydia’s family encouraged her artistic and creative side; she learned to sketch and paint, and later turned her talents to sewing.
When Lady Lydia was a teenager, her family moved to Tasmania, and she spent many years at Cowrie Point in the northwest of the island. Here she continued to develop her creativity, studying art and literature. In the 1970s, she returned to the United States, marrying a minister and becoming Lydia Sherman. Over the course of her 40-year marriage she has lived in locations across the globe, including Africa, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. While living overseas, she passed on to others her skills in homemaking and sewing.
An advocate of school choice and home schooling, Lady Lydia taught her own children in the home from 1982 through 1994. She was very active in the home-schooling movement, and published numerous home-school newsletters and children's books. Lady Lydia Sherman continued to develop her writing talents, and helped to form the Ladies Against Feminism website. She writes posts on etiquette, called “Lady Lydia Speaks,” giving advice to homemakers and promoting a lifestyle in line with biblical teachings. Her name refers to the respect and courtesy granted to Victorian women, who were always referred to as ladies.
Lydia Sherman also runs her own bog, Home Living, where she writes about homemaking and home-schooling children, among other topics. She lives in Oregon, and still teaches sewing as well as biblical living and homemaking.
