I've been sewing for 25 years but quilting for only 8.
I'm really enjoying the modern quilt movement - the solid fabrics and clean, simple layouts appeal to my design sense.
On the other hand, one of the things I love about quilting is getting to play with colors and patterns that I would never wear or use in my home decorating. They are a chance to go a little wild.
Fabrics (designers) I have been liking (06/'11):
Kaffe Fassett (just everything)
Heather Ross (especially Mendocino)
Echino (haven't disliked one yet)
Kate Spain - Central Park!
Kona Solids
Laurie Wisbrun - chairs, elephants (not the trucks so much)
Robert Kaufman (just in general)
Daiwabo - Tip Top Elephants
Denyse Schmidt - Greenfield Hill
Daisy Jane - Shades of Grey
Emily Werrick - Going Coastal
I'm finding I like smaller, more complicated piecing. I like hand and machine applique (as a look, not to do myself) but really don't like raw edge applique - too messy.
