Thanks for stopping by and taking a look at my photos, I hope you enjoy them.

I've been interested in railways & locomotives for as long as I can remember.

I started out spotting around 1976 as a 5-year-old boy going out with my dad. Over time, as I grew older & the less I needed for sight, the more I grew interested in loco haulage, particularly Sulzer engined locos. With the demise of the traditional loco hauled passenger train over the years, to keep my interest going the more interested in photography I became.

In this ever increasingly H&S obsessed age that we live in, I find modern day train travel & railtouring somewhat stale & sanitised. I find travelling on service trains nowadays a horrible experience, sat in sealed 'coffins' with bright lighting, hard seats, windows that don't line up with the seats, trains that aren't long enough & idiots either watching footage on their phones or listening to music. Buy some earphones you muppets! Railtouring has become expensive & less of a product. It's predominantly 'coffins' nowadays & you can't stick your head out of the drop light window anymore to take in the sights, smells & sounds, it is getting to the point where you'll soon have to stick your hand up to go to the toilet. So I do less & less railtouring now with every passing year. It's a shame but it's their loss not mine. So to catch up with friends now I'll do 3 or 4 days a year at a preserved railway for a bit of thrash, have a reminder of when the railway was a better place to be, to have social & laugh with friends.

Since around the age of 12 I've carried a camera with me (a Halina 110 camera) & by the age of 14 I'd progressed to my 1st 35mm camera (a Praktica MTL3). Numerous 35mm camera's later I then went over to a digital camera in 2005 to record the ever-changing scene. I'll go out nowadays when the weather is nice & heritage traction is about. Thankfully, living in the midlands we are blessed to still have a fair bit of heritage traction kicking around from different companies & from various classes. In no particular order, I've zero interest in steam, HSTs, Class 66s & 2nd generation DMUs & EMUs, no matter what the colour is. You can't polish a turd.

In 2008 I belatedly made the inevitable move & began work on the railway as a trainee driver based at Aylesbury for Chiltern Railways. After 14 years with Chiltern Railways predominately based at Tyseley & Birmingham Moor Street, I'm now a driver for East Midlands Railway based at Derby. Joining the railway is one of the best things I've ever done & I wished I'd have done it earlier.

Once again thanks for stopping by. Hope you enjoy the photos.
