Hello!

I have a small doubt.

I've seen a lot of pictures that are self-portraits with Brenizer Method, but don't understand how to do this if you always keep the same position.

Could someone give me some clue about this?

Thank you very much!
Dani LC

P.S.: Sorry for my english.

Where have you seen those photos?

I've taken only one this way. With the camera on a tripod and the focus point established, I set the 10 second timer to shoot a frame while I moved into position. Then I shoot the rest of the overlapping frames the same way as usual. More than the usual amount of post-processing was required, I found.

As long as you are entirely within the frame of one shot then it wouldn't be a problem to go back to the camera, check this to be OK and then cover the surrounding area.

I have included myself in a couple of shots since so one else were around and found it surprisingly difficult to not have missing feet or elbows or something. At least a missing shadow can be painted in.

But for closer portraits... hmmm, difficult on all kinds of levels. Even nailing the shallow focus is difficult up close if you don't have a tethered touch screen for focusing.

A teacher at my school asked me if I used "one of those automatic panorama heads that cover a preset area automatically" and I said "no". Afterwards I wondered if that actually exists and have searched for it without finding it. Perhaps it could be built. One middle shot, then something like a simple Lego motor thingy that swivels the pano head to the left a bit and then to the right. :)

I was thinking about buying the pro version for my camera (Sony A7r), and realized it's not in the compatibility list. So I tried to contact GigaPan's support and that's what I got:

"NETSUITE Notice
Please contact Accounts Receivable at 650.627.1316 to re-enable this company."

Not sure if GigaPan is still in business... Any ideas? :)

So looks like Gigapan is not an option...

B&H still lists & sells them, not sure of the company's new status. They did make a good product, but there are also less expensive options, will get back on that soon...

Wow, look at that thing! I need to look into this, thanks! :)

They are listed but not in stock. I would hesitate buying a $1k piece of equipment without any kind of warranty though... Hope they will get back in business soon.

B&H has 3 left for the Epic, but you are right though, no warranty service available right now so people should wait a bit. I've seen other DIY kits out there using Ardrino micro controllers, one thst came pretty much finished. Will post them here ASAP.

A bit too hefty for me to haul around those Gigapan Pro things. It says 4.5 kilos!

Already I have a carbon tripod that is far too light and unsteady for my Nikon DSLR. I focus on an object, shoot and then start to shoot a row of shots out to one side, and when I pass by the object again on my way to the other side it is completely out of focus. So for still objects I tend to go back and refocus several times as I cover the entire planned frame.

Well, so with this thing and a much heavier tripod I would probably never bother to bring it anywhere. No actual work would be done. But I like the fact that it exists. When some day the lottery millions arrive I might pick one up just for fun. :)

I used the wifi connection between the camera and ipad. That explains why I was holding the ipad in the photo :)
