I will heading down to Costa Rica, San Jose area for business, but plan on taking a day or two for photography and sightseeing. Any ideas where would be a good place to visit? I will be in the San Jose for work, but can travel a bit if time allows. Also any trip advisories would be appreciated.

Sorry, nothing for the left side but if you make it over to the right side take a boat tour of the Tortuguero Canals and take a walk around Puerto Limon. If you go into Puerto Limon have someone watching out for you while you take pictures.

You know it is the rainy season right? That's means monsoon style rain so I would suggest a camera cover.
As for where to go I would suggest, Arenal Volcano if times allows, making sure you stop by Sarapiqui so you can take some shots at La Paz waterfalls.
I'm from Costa Rica so if you have any questions please let me know I'll be glad to help.

I was there in November and they said it was the rainy season. The temperature was warm, low to mid eighties, and sometimes it would be almighty storms and then be nice. Take a bag with a rain cover and a hat and clothes that dry quickly and you will be fine.
Leaving tomorrow morning! Can't wait. Hope the weather is good for the next few days. I think I may take a day tour. No driving and can focus on photography. Looks like Monday I will be working all day. No early start for photo fun.

Enjoy, you should have lots of photo ops. Always wanted to visit Costa Rica. Maybe someday.
Made it back. What a wonderful country and a great place for photography. Although, I only visited one area in Costa Rica and for only a few days, it was a lot of fun. On Tuesday I decided to take a 10 hour long tour to a volcano, coffee plantation and a Cloud/Rainforest/nature park and on Wednesday I hired a taxi for four hour tour before my flight out. He took me all over the San Jose area and neighboring towns, plus he acted as my interpreter at all of the stops. He also gave some history of the country and the people of Costa Rica. Some of my photos can be seen at this link.
