Group Description

This is a group to post photos of Commemorative Air Force aircraft (or any other World War II and/or historic aircraft). Help keep their legacy alive, and spark public interest in these great warbirds. Let's preserve their memory.
CAF Information
Commemorative Air Force History
The origin of the Commemorative Air Force dates back to 1951, with the purchase of a surplus Curtiss P-40 Warhawk. A short while later, the group added a P-51 Mustang and then a pair of F8F Bearcats. At this point, the mission of the CAF became clear: save an example of every aircraft that flew during WWII ~ a mission no one else was undertaking.
Commemorative Air Force Facts
CAF Aircraft fly, and are seen by as many as 10 million people throughout the U.S. and Canada each year! Our mission is to preserve the stories and lessons of World War II and make them available directly to you.
CAF Aircraft Facts
Many of the CAF aircraft are rare. The CAF operates the only flying examples of the historic B-29 Superfortress and Curtiss SB2C Helldiver.
CAF Objectives
1. To acquire, restore, and preserve in flying condition a complete collection of combat aircraft which were flown by all military services of the United States , and selected aircraft of other nations, for the education and enjoyment of present and future generations of Americans.
2. To construct or obtain museum buildings for the permanent protection, maintenance, and display of these historic aircraft, period artifacts, and documents as a tribute to the thousands of men and women who built, serviced, and flew them and to build and organize the "Combat Airman Hall of Fame."
3. To perpetuate the spirit in which such combat aircraft were flown in the defense of our nation, in the memory and hearts of all Americans.
4. To establish an organization having the dedication, enthusiasm, and Esprit de Corps necessary to operate, maintain, and preserve these aircraft as symbols of our American Military Aviation Heritage.
Keep 'em flying!
