Administrivia
Hi all, it appears I'm now the admin for this group, so if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, please let me know! Looking over the group settings etc, I've got three questions/suggestions looking for your input:
1) Would anyone be willing to help out as a moderator? I'm looking for one or two volunteers to help watch out for trouble when I'm too busy to keep up with checking my groups. It should be an easy job, as I don't really expect any problems. Your main task may be to remove the occasional off-topic or spammy picture from the pool (such as airplanes, kittens, jewelry etc) or let me know about it so I can remove it.
2) The group is currently set up to limit submissions to 2 per day. How do you feel about that? Just about right, or too restrictive?
3) Also, our group icon is too small for Flickr's new layout. How do we want to go about finding a new one? Is anyone interested in having a group icon competition of some sorts? If nobody is interested, I'll see if I can find a similar picture among mine and replace it.
4) Last but not least, reading over the group description it specifies that the group is for wildflowers of the Eastern USA and Canada, but the group name right now only says USA. I'd like to propose renaming it to "Wildflowers of Eastern North America" to include the Canadian flora. Does anyone have any objections to this?

Thanks for taking on the admin job. I'm not online regularly enough to be a good moderator so I can't help there. 2 per day seems like a blunt tool for preventing abuse; just an idea but how about 2 per species per day?
Icon: should be a single bloom with strong color and shape, and definitely wild! From recent photos in the group two good choices are:
www.flickr.com/photos/21924651@N08/9079480435/in/pool-119...
www.flickr.com/photos/hyla/9284107168/in/pool-1193714@N23/
Agreed on changing the group name as you suggest.

Thanks for your input! Two per species per day sounds like an interesting idea, but it would require someone monitoring submissions to prevent abuse, as Flickr can't tell what's in the photos that are submitted. And I wouldn't want to turn this into a group where admins/moderators need to constantly monitor submissions and chastise people that don't follow the rules.
I've been thinking of maybe changing it to 5 per day or doing away with it altogether. In the other group I admin (Wildflowers of the Blue Ridge and Great Smoky Mountains), we don't have a limit and rarely get anyone submitting more than 5-6 pictures at a time anyway. Sometimes someone goes on a trip to the Smokies or something and submits all their images in one go, but that happens just once in a while.

I'm for two photos per day. I think you and any monitors should pick out the group icon. I think naming the group "Wildflowers of Eastern North America" is a great idea - wildflowers know no boundaries. I'm not big on the "chastise" idea. Simply removing the photo is an adequate hint. There will always be those who don't comprehend rules. We can't change them.
Thanks for the suggestions! I've replaced the group icon with a bigger picture of spiderwort, just for the sake of consistency, and renamed the group as suggested.
I'm still inclined to increase the limit on the number of submissions at least a little bit. Does anyone else have an opinion on that?

Nice choice on the group icon. :) I don't have a strong opinion on submission limits, but there is something nice about having submissions trickle in as opposed to getting dumped in large batches.

I agree with you on posting limits. I personally will only add 3 photos per day and then check the next day to see if someone else has added some before I will add more. I think from 3 to 5 is a reasonable amount. Most people will only add a couple at a time but this would prevent those occasional people from putting up their whole photostream all at once. Great choice on the Icon.
