It seems the only thing for certain lately is a thick, dull-grey eastern sky every morning. Looking back to memories of a very pretty previous winter in a favorite place of ours. We're taking a short mental trip for a few minutes to a most beautiful place with still, icy, rose-colored waters surrounded by crusty, wave-splashed snow.
Thanks for stopping.
Tucked away in far northern Wisconsin deep within its pine forests are a number of charming waterfalls. Here the beautiful Echo Dells bathed in a foggy morning, unusual temperate weather for late December. A wonderful landscape image for the end of 2024...enjoy!

Mirror Lake is actually an impoundment of Dell Creek. A dam to provide a head of water for a flour mill was first installed in 1860, creating Mirror Lake. The really beautiful thing about this reservoir is that it sits in a narrow canyon. The canyon is believed to have been formed when the proglacial lake in the Dell Creek basin (connected to glacial Lake Wisconsin) emptied catastrophically. A place of great beauty with scenic sandstone "dells" that are covered with White and Red Pines. The high sides of the canyon keep the wind from disturbing the surface of the lake most of the time, so the name "Mirror Lake" is really justified.
The structure in the distance behind the fallen tree is the famous Ishnala supper club. A destination for special family occasions for over 60 years. Some of the pines actually are growing through through the building itself. Have a great Sunday.

Earlier, I was able to see Native American crow feet petroglyphs on the base of this mountain. French explorers named this mound in Wisconsin Roche-a-cri. It means screaming rock.
Couldn't resist posting another shot from that great sunset we had in Door County a couple weekends ago. Since Door is a peninsula, there are miles of incredible shoreline.
