The title is raw, and so are my feelings.

I listen to the daily news regularly. Well, call me a mazochist. Every bloody week the newsreader recites in a strictly neutral voice, "A woman was found murdered in her home... stabbed to death... after a long divorce process... battle about custody... restraining order... police made an arrest."

Oh, sometimes it's not "stabbed". It's "bludgeoned" or "shot".

The damn bitch... she must have deserved it, anyway. Was the house clean enough? She must have nagged on her husband too much if he came home too late, innit? And she must have whined a lot about the household money... and she was crap in bed, obviously.

Do you politely giggle when your male colleagues tell a joke about the proverbial "dumb blonde"? Do you snigger self-righteously when you hear someone's husband filed for divorce because the lady was a tramp?

Don't. Google "Elina Chauvet" and "Zapatos Rojos". Then... think, deeply and profoundly.

Then, if you're in Second Life, go and see the exhibition at MIC - Musei in Comune Roma, here: maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/MIC/112/217/25

Elif, I've chosen your installation because it's powerful and pure. There are many other excellent artworks on show at MIC. Go there, think about it, and do something IRL, if you can.

PS. Read the book of this lovely Irish lady, Marian Keyes. She must have met a sociopath in her life. So did I. So... read the book. www.mariankeyes.com/Books/This-Charming-Man

Quem me dera! Haha, só no livro por enquanto.

Liam Ó Maonlaí (born 7 November 1964) is an Irish musician best known as a member of the Hothouse Flowers. Ó Maonlaí formed the band in 1985 with his schoolmate Fiachna Ó Braonáin.

I had the opportunity to photograph the Pope's visit to Ireland but there was little point in doing so as there were so many expert and professional photographers from all parts of the World that could produce much better results than I could.

I really needed to find a different angle and this morning I received it when I was contacted by Darragh Doyle inviting me to an event at the Garden Of Remembrance at Parnell Square which is less than five minutes from my apartment.

The event featured the following: Colm O'Gorman, Hozier, Villagers, Mary Coughlan, Sarah Clancy, Liam Ó Maonlaí, Susie Q, Grace Dyas, Marian Keyes, Brian Kennedy, Mary Black and Lankum.

I would like to mention that I decided to switch from Canon DSLR to mirrorless in 2010 when I first purchased a Sony NEX-5. The process has taken about eight years and my current camera is a Sony A7RIII. Over the last eighteen months I have spent a lot of cash acquiring top class lenses and I am still learning how best to such glass so some of my photographs may not be as good as they should but i have included them in order to give a feel of what the event was like.

At a later date I will upload a second batch of images featuring the performers mentioned above.

Correct me I have incorrectly the performers as being members of the Villagers.

Villagers are an Irish indie folk band from Dublin, formed in 2008. As well as songwriter and vocalist/guitarist Conor O'Brien, the band currently consists of Danny Snow (bass, upright bass), Cormac Curran (keyboards), Gwion Llewelyn (drums, flugelhorn) and Mali Llywelyn (harp).

The band came to prominence in 2010 with the release of their debut album, Becoming a Jackal. Released to critical acclaim, the album was shortlisted for the 2010 Mercury Prize and the Choice Music Prize. The band's second studio album, {Awayland} was released in 2013. It won the Choice Music Prize that year and was also shortlisted for the 2013 Mercury Prize. In 2015 they released their third album, Darling Arithmetic, and the following year Where Have You Been All My Life? - a compilation of live reworkings of some of the band's best-known tracks. In May 2016 Darling Arithmetic won the Ivor Novello award for Best Album.

I rarely indulge my chick-lit guilty pleasure, because when I start reading them, I can’t stop. They’re crazy addictive...

And just an FYI, Marian Keyes is my favorite chick-lit author. If you're a chick-lit fan you must read her books : )

{ODC: Hobbies}

can you tell I was in a very 'pink' mood today?

This photo was meant to mock Hollywood a little. I actually decided to really open the book at the first page for this, because I'm supposed to be too busy being fabulous to actually read.

Oh and never mind the crazy shape of the sunglasses. Didn't have anything else available (I always lose sunglasses haha.)

Ah, chicklit. The word reminds me of my former worries of having to face a future where I’d surely end up an old spinster with twenty cats. The times when I would comfort my single self by watching “Bridget Jones’s Diary” repeatedly and by burying my nose into cheesy chicklit novels – instead of going out there and making things happen for myself. (Oh, the sabotage.)

Apart from reading The Devil Wears Prada, the only other books I’ve read lately that fit the chicklit genre have been books by Marian Keyes. She writes these fun, easygoing beachbooks with a humane and realistic undertone; her books touch on serious subjects without forced sentimentality.

Her main characters that I’ve read about so far have not been the typical ‘Clueless, clumsy London girls’, feministic on the surface yet always ending up with the man they initially despise (but then realize is ‘The One’). Basically, chicklit according to Marian Keyes does not mean butchering the “Pride & Prejudice” formula, while adding in as much contrived humor as possible.

In “Angels”, Maggie Walsh (the goodie two shoes of the five Walsh sisters Marian Keyes regularly writes about) is forced to regain her individuality after realizing her marriage of nine years with Garv is over. Maggie decides to leave him and embarks on an adventure which brings her to visit her friend Emily, a scriptwriter living in Los Angeles, where Maggie gets to do things she otherwise would never have done.

I guess having read it all now, all I have left to say is: well, colour me unimpressed.

“Angels” didn’t manage to move me as much as “Anybody Out There” or “Rachel’s Holiday”, books about two of Maggie’s sisters (respectively Anna & Rachel Walsh). The main character just wasn’t interesting enough.

And that’s really disappointing coming from Marian Keyes, whom I always considered to be an author sharing the flaws and emotions of her main characters. Maggie throughout most of the book remained a bit of an incoherent and shallow character.

What drove her to do things a certain way? That wasn’t known until the very last sections of the book, which is not a good place for character building. Keyes was too late in giving her heroine some depth, because she was apparently more concerned with describing haircuts, lesbians (yawn) and Emily-on-the-phone-with-producers-oh-the-drama.

This book for the larger part focused on Maggie’s experiences in the Hollywood scene, starring one unsympathetic stereotypical character after the other.

Jeremy Piven in “Entourage” is all the ‘Hollywood’ I can stand. Especially now that I’ve read this.

As I continued reading (yes, I managed), La La Land really became the most boring location I can think of – the desert would have been a more interesting place – and the nearly 500 pages of the book ended up being a drag to get through in order to reach an ending which wasn’t satisfying, but the only logical way to go.

This book was not horrible in itself and it was entertaining at times, but “Angels” came dangerously close to being the kind of clichéd chicklit I tend to avoid nowadays. There is much more to Marian Keyes.

So I leave you with three recommendations: leave "Angels", try “Rachel’s Holiday” and do watch Jeremy Piven in "Entourage". Seriously.

Performing an extract from her new play "Heroin". The show charts the social history of the drug in Dublin from the 1960s to the present day. It shows how heroin came into Dublin and details the three heroin epidemics that unfolded in the nation’s capital, while successive governments told us it wasn’t happening. We all know heroin is no longer something that only happens in Dublin. The history of the drug as told in HEROIN is been repeated in smaller towns and cities across Ireland. History is repeating itself, on your doorstep.

Marian Keyes is just one of my fav authors along with the likes of Cecilia Ahern (ps. i love you, ((you have just got to see that on DVD too..but have yer box of tissues ready... I balled me eyes out from it started till the end! but it's a fabby wee film)) and where rainbows end) & Jennifer Weiner (in her shoes, also fabby dvd!) to name a few.

But it's Marian's book that has been keeping me off flickr the past few weeks and seeing as the 7dos group's theme this week is books and novels I had to get this book in somehow.

Politians, journalists, steamy relationships, lives falling apart, cross dressing neighbours, domestic violence and humiliation along with revenge and closure... it was a gripping page turner from start to finish.

The humour that Marian writes in is heart warming and makes you read the book as if you're part of the story (or maybe that's just the way i read a good book!!) anyway, what really came across to me in this book, is how woman are subjected to domestic violence. now i'm not gonna go on to a whole rant about it all tho i will say this...You are NOT to blame. You did NOTHING wrong and You DESERVE BETTER!!! To have a hand lifted to you once, is once too many.

www.womensaid.org.uk/ and www.mensadviceline.org.uk/ are there to help.

Remember that just because you love a partner, does not give them the right to use it as a right to lash out and harm you and all the excuses in the world are just that.. excuses and should NOT be excusable!! All the promises that it won't happen again, are just empty ones.

Ok so there ye go.. this is my freestyle friday for 7dos theme books and novels!

Róisín O is an Irish singer, songwriter, and musician. She is signed to independent label 3ú Records. She released her debut album The Secret Life of Blue in 2012, and it entered the Irish charts at number 21. Her mother is the well known Mary Black.

Marian Keyes, Rachel's Holiday.

I like the crop.

@ Nicole: I generally like her books. It's chicklit only with some depth to it... the author doesn't write about birds and bees but about serious subjects without losing humor. This book is about a woman in rehab dealing with a drug addiction.
