.... It’s official: Kawhi Leonard is the King of the North, at least that’s according to the massive mural that is now sprawled across the side of 50 Pembroke Street. The artwork, created by @javid_jah and @luvsumone, shows a close-up of Kawhi with a crown atop his head. Alongside his image are the words “King of the North,” and “The Finals”.... Raptors won the first game of the Finals, against Golden State Warriors

Toronto Raptors fans wanted to squeeze a little bit more out of that historic Game 6 victory that sent their team to its first-ever NBA Finals — and revel in the celebration before the reality of basketball's biggest event and the Golden State Warriors set in.

On Sunday afternoon in Toronto on Queen Street West, less than 24 hours after the win, fans lined up in front of OD Toronto, the building now famous for the Kawhi Leonard larger-than-life murals.

Toronto sports fans in a frenzy as Raptors reach NBA Finals

Many of them basked in the warm glow of the sun in Raps apparel, all waiting to get inside and get a photo with the mural of Kawhi Leonard's buzzer-beater against the Philadelphia 76ers. Groups of people also gathered across the street, stopping cars at times, to get a photo of Leonard on the façade of the store.

The OD Toronto building has become famous during this 2019 playoff run for its massive murals of Leonard gracing the black-bricked exterior. The first one popped up in advance of the second round against Philadelphia.

Raptors pride has never been stronger in the City of Toronto, and it shows.

Ever since the NBA team won the title of Eastern Conference champions on Saturday night, the city has come alive with tributes to the beloved team. The Toronto sign in Nathan Phillips Square lit up in red and black, fans have been repping Raps paraphernalia non-stop, and plenty of people have lined up to take a photo in front of the now-famous Kawhi Leonard mural inside a Queen West shop.

But now, as the first game of the NBA Finals draws near, a new mural in honour of the King of the North (a.k.a. Kawhi) has been unveiled in Regent Park.

Two local artists, Javid Jah and Luvsumone, got together to paint this graffiti art, which can be found at 50 Pembroke St.

Jah is the same artist who added Raptors stars Demar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry to Graffiti Alley in 2016 after the team made the Eastern Conference finals.

If the Raptors win the NBA Finals, Jah told BlogTO that they might add Lowry to the wall in Regent Park as well.

This isn’t the first mural to pop up in the city in honour of the Toronto Raptors. Consignment store OD Toronto was the first to catch the public’s attention with their 30-foot wall art of Kawhi. The Queen West shop initially plastered a photo of the star player on their exterior in anticipation of Game 5 against the Philadelphia 76ers.

The OD store can be classified as a Kawhi shrine: head inside and you'll see a mural of the iconic Game 7 tableau, with Kawhi's squat, the fearful face of Joel Embiid, and Jordan Loyd's elation, all captured forever as the ball hung suspended in the air .... .... The one question every Raptors fan wants the answer to as soon as possible is will Kawhi Leonard sign a long-term deal with the Raptors.

The 27-year-old was traded to the Raptors earlier this summer, but everyone thinks he has his sights set on Los Angeles after this season, meaning he'll be in Toronto for just one season. If winning more rings is a priority for Kawhi, Toronto might be his best option. He has the ultimate proof now that this is a championship-calibre team, and almost all the Raptors' other key players are still under contract for next season (Danny Green is the top pending free agent among them). Leonard is capable of turning any team he joins into a contender, but the Clippers would have more work to do to build a truly great team around him. There's no guarantee they can pull that off. Plus, the Eastern Conference offers an easier road to the finals than the West. Relocating to L.A. might make for a great lifestyle, but staying in Toronto might be the better career move ....
