The Delaware River starts here in New York State, in Delaware County where I live. This is a scene along a bike trail, through farmland - but the land on either side of the small river is left wild. This is 'best management practice' for streams and rivers - the native wild vegetation filters runoff into the river and keeps it clean[er].

Subject: Pepacton Reservoir taken from NY Route 30 near the south end of Downsville Dam, looking north and east. The small inset photo (lower right) is the sign "FORMER SITE OF PEPACTON" taken on Route 30 a mile or so east of the main photo.

The pool height was about 1274.1 ft when this photo was taken on Aug 20, 2011 -- about 6 feet below the spillway height of 1280 ft. Recorded pool heights range from 1151.9 ft to 1283.7 ft.

On Aug 19, 2011, the resevoir was 92.3% full. You can see that the resevoir level is down several feet in the photo.

Camera: Canon T2i (550D), with Canon 20mm f/2.8 EF lens at f/5.6. The main photo is a panorama of 2 panes, combined with Autopano Pro 2. A polarizing filter was used to reduce reflections from leaves/grass and to enhance the sky.

I suppose I should mention here that about a week after this photo was taken, the flood of record occurred at the upstream flood gauge (just downstream of Margaretville, NY). I don't think the pool height reached a record for the reservoir, though.
