The nightshift crew this time out: judyboy, skazama, rizzolo and rtlm401. We were back looking at the progress of the I-195 to I-95 interchange relocation/construction. It is scheduled to open in the east bound direction in November of this year!

The usual crew of threshold, rizzolo, skazama and rtlm401 came out to Providence to shoot the IWAY before it's impending opening of the Rte-195 East Bound lanes in November.

I set up my tripod halfway on the dirt road in the backside of the construction site and before the new on ramp from 195W to 95S. I was standing just off frame out of view when I opened the shutter on a timer controlled remote.

See the F100's "busted" version much earlier this evening.

After finishing the film in my F100 and Holga I allowed the D200 to come out and play. That wasn't until 11pm and the "Late Nighters" stayed until 1:20am... man was beat the next day.

A construction pick up truck drove off the bridge and decided to drive down this patch of road but slowed as he neared my rig in the road. He was going really slow at this point (not to mention lighting up my expsoure) probably wondering what the hell was in the road.

Well I stepped out to save my gear shielding my eyes as I looked directly at the truck. As the worker drove by to turn around, I thought about bolting but thought better and just set my rig back up in the same location and prepared to take another shot. The guy came by and asked me what I was photographing - "... beautiful night sky and IWAY progress", I told him... he was like "Okay" and drove off.

Lesson learned from previous night shoots... remain calm and try not to bolt around hiding... that'll just attract attention and the fuzz! If you are obvious in what you do, then people will usually ignore you.

At this point the Doc and I finally made it to the top of the IWAY span. Threshold had been up here for some time and we were just catching up to him a little past midnight. It was really gorgeous up here... the view was one that we'll not get to see once it opens up for traffic.

A construction vehicle surprised us (and I'm sure vice versa) this frame shows the pickup truck roll up toward and onto the IWAY span, I was squatting on the ground near these concrete fillings and one of the trucks lit me up... but they didn't seem to care... nice!

Narragansett Electric (now called National Grid) red lit stacks and clock light up the night sky. That trailer has been here for many many months but soon it will be cleared out once the East bound lane opens up for vehicles.

I opened the shutter to this prior to setting up this shot, you can barely see the truck driving by at the very bottom of this frame. The white streak is the headlights driving up to the bridge. That's what you get with 64 speed film and 10 minute exposures... more light please =)

Looking west, this is one of the incomplete sections of the I95/I195 interchange reconstruction. You can see the beams spanning over I95 but not entirely connected. Notes: Shot with Nikon D200 with Nikon 10.5mm

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The usual crew of threshold, rizzolo, skazama and rtlm401 came out to Providence to shoot the IWAY before it's impending opening of the Rte-195 East Bound lanes in November.

Shot in the middle of the IWAY span looking south the fisheye makes curves even more so. At this point I turned NR off since the exposures were less than 120", this allowed me to shoot rapid fire... sweet!

After finishing the film in my F100 and Holga I allowed the D200 to come out and play. That wasn't until 11pm and the "Late Nighters" stayed until 1:20am... man was beat the next day.

You can see a group pool here of all our shots on Flickr from the night or a slick slideshow here. It may take a week or so for all the shots to be posted.

Notes:

Similar to a film frame from last winter. Not much progress to this pier over the last few months.

The nightshift crew this time out: judyboy, skazama, rizzolo and rtlm401. We were back looking at the progress of the I-195 to I-95 interchange relocation/construction. It is scheduled to open in the east bound direction in November of this year!

Down below is one of the many staging areas for the trucks pulling bridge components out to the appropriate location. Here you can see the brake lights from the police escorts and trucks on the underside of the ramp.

Despite the indifference by the construction vehicle passing by the crew at the top of the shoot retreated to a safer location to continue our fun.
