Hi..
Sakal people are organizing a event called as '1000 smiles' where in 1000 photos of smiling people will be displayed sometime in november.
They want 20 photographers to do the photoshoot for them. The shoot will take place on the 24th of October, ie coming Sunday (Time yet not confirmed). they have shortlisted 15 places in Pune where the shoot will be done. The points to be noted are,
1. No money will be given to any of the photographers.
2. I have no idea how and in what manner the photos will be printed and displayed.
3.We have to give them the shots right away without editing, they will take of that. (can discuss with them and ask for some time so that we can edit them ourselves and then give them the final pics)
I am looking at this as one more P@P group activity. I am not sure but we can demand for some more publicity for Drushtikon in Sakal.

It was a gr8 Fruitful Discussion with Mr. Milind Wadekar.
The following points were discussed and agreed in the meeting.
The Photographs taken during the 1000 Smiles shoot will be displayed in an exhibition which will be held on 5,6,7 Nov 2010 @ Ganesh Kala Krida Mandir.
Date: 24th Oct 2010- Sunday
Timings: The Shoot will be carried out during day time (6.00 AM to 6.00 PM) as the Photographs should be captured using only natural daylight. No Flash guns to be used.
The 1000 Smiles shoot will be carried at 15 different locations in Pune as listed below:
1.FC Road
2.Pune Station
3.Mandai
4.Senapati Bapat road
5.Camp
6.Hinjewadi
7.Sinhagad Road
8.Kalyani Nagar
9.Aundh
10.Koregaon Park
11.Fatima Nagar
12.SP College Area
13.Kothrud
14.Satara Road
15. Kondwa
Each area will be distributed among the Group members, A group can be of 2-5 Photographers covering that respective area.
e.g A group of 2-5 people can cover FC road and So On.
One member from this group has to Coordinate for that area with other members and get the photographs copied on a CD/Pen drive and Submit it. All the Photographs should be saved with the Particular Area Name.
e.g If a Photo is clicked on FC road, the nomenclature should be like FCRoad_001.jpg and so on.
All these Photographes will be saved in a Folder with the same name. (Folder name: FCRoad)
All the photos will be of smiling faces with mid close up.
Captures should be from all walks of life. ( From different communities, backgrounds, age groups, religion, economic class, kids, woman, youths etc)
All the photos will be in Jpeg format. You can do a bit of Brightness/Contrast correction on the photos. NO other edits to be done on the photograph.
Photos should be of Fine+Large quality (Check the Picture setting in the camera)
All the members have to submit a generic form mentioning a brief detail about themselves (Includes Name, Address, Age, Company Name, Area of Interest in Photography, Gears used, etc)
Note: The detailed form will be posted soon
All the Members for this shoot will be provided with an ID card / Batch by Sakal to avoid any issues or concerns raised by Cops or People while doing the shoot
There will be News published in Sakal on Saturday regd. this Shoot and an Advertise will also be published in Sunday edition of Sakal News with a mention of P@P group carrying this activity.
All the members will sign an Concent clause which allows SAKAL Group to use the captures in any form of their media. This clause will be included with the Personal Info. Form.
What is required from you guys:
1.Please Mention the area which you will covering during the Shoot, So that the groups can be planned according as the earliest. Do keep in mind that if one area group is crowded with more members we can shuffle the member's in different groups accordingly which have less members. So be Flexible.
2. Do send your Information as mentioned once the Personal Info form is ready.
3. VERY IMPORTANT: NONE OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS CAPTURED WILL BE PUBLISHED IN ANY PUBLIC FORUM (FLICKR, FACEBOOK ETC) BEFORE THE EXHIBITION, You can publish them once the exhibition is over.
Few of us will be meeting again with Mr. Milind Wadekar on Friday and will get the ID cards / Batches . These will be in turn distributed to all the members on Saturday during the 5.00 pm Barista meet. ( I guess Barista will surely run out of chairs this time)

Just quick queries:
1. Is there any upper-limit on number pf photos per photographer?
2. RAW to JPEG conversion is permitted? Or do we need to shoot in JPEG (Fine) Only?

1) As saakal people want 1000 images, so we roughly have to give them 1200 pics. Their are total 15 groups so each grp must have 80-90 pics
As u are Leader of Hinjewadi grp its ur responsibility to manage 80-90 pics among ur group thts it.
2) They want images only in JPEG format only. You can took pics in RAW but final image must be in JPEG format.
@ ALL - 1 imp thing , if anybody knows any Celebrity who born and brought up in PUNE itself. Do click them too.

Can P@P use those photographs to put on P@P website? Can we create the thread with 1000 photos in it or may be in Picasa? Also guys please don't forget to shoot making of the event that we can show at our exhibition time...just sharing my few ideas...i will miss this event :(

Nope we can not post these photos to any online/offline forum or media of any sort till the time they are not first published by Sakal in their media publishing or in their '1000 Smiles' exhibition event as mentioned above.

Seems I would missing the event. Just returned from a shoot and somehow left my camera back in Mumbai. :( Else wold have liked to be part of the Kalyani Nagar team. Anyway, good luck guys.

Thanx Guys for such a wonderful response and great work @ yesterdays ”1000 Smile” shoot, It was once in a Life time experience for all. People out there from Pune too were equally responding for this great concept.
I hope everybody had got something or other to share and cherish from yesterday’s shoot. This outing has defiantly given a good exposure to “P@P” as a group and will help us in our future shoots/outings as well.
We had discussed a few things yesterday @6.00 pm meet, But those who were unable to make it yesterday evening, here are few pointers going ahead for submitting the Photos.
1.Group Leads, Please coordinate with your group members and get the photos on a CD with their respective Names & all the details as mentioned before in the discussion by Wednesday evening. ( Please do not submit your Photos in a Pen Drive or any other such external device )
2.If you have captured in RAW please covert them to Jpeg for the Final Output.
3.Do not change the Image size or crop the Image.
4.As decided & discussed earlier please do not Publish these photos until SAKAL Media does it. I know most of us might be tempting a lot to do so :)

Can we display the selected 1000 pics in sakal "1000 smiles" at P@P site or picassa ??(off course after the sakal exhibition)

Hey it feels great to see thse photos. But unfortunately I won't be able to attend the exhibition during 5th to 7th of this month as I am going to my hometown for Diwali.

Let us ask Sakaal/Milind for their official invitation mailer (like the one we create for exhibition every year), which you can use to invite.

Guys check for Sakal Newspaper Front Page Header.
The Header is designed using "1000 Smile" Pictures. Sakal will be Publishing these kind of headers for the next entire Diwali week on the Front page.

Most of us are at our hometown away from Pune..will surely be missing the exhibition.. Can anyone ask sakal spokesperson, if they can publish all the exhibited photos in newspaper or on their site..so that we can show them to our parents here...
Just been to the exhibition...Its wonderful. One would wonder how come Punekars smile so much :-) Congrats and Thanks to all who clicked the photos !!
There was no crowd (still too early) there so could click the exhibition peacefully. Can I post those photos here? So those out of town can get glimpse of it.

Congratulations to all who participated in this initiative.
Sakal provided us wonderful opportunity to make Punekars smile (which is a tough task :-P). Thanks to Sakal.
I am really excited to go there. Will definitely visit tomorrow. Good to see that the cameras are allowed there.

guys, i'm really missing the fun as i'm out of town. Please post some pics here. Congratulations to all, this is one of the team effort. Alone nobody can achieve this.

What a experience that was!!! Gr8 people, gr8 work. Morning, I visited with my family, my cousins also visited 1-2 hours before, all of them are appreciating P@P' s work, I could figure out 10-12 snaps of mine... Very happy. Thanks to sakal and P@P for giving me this opportunity.

This surely is a laudable effort by P@P!! 1000 good photos displayed, and i am very sure, there are another 1000 that couldnt be displayed, owing to space constraints! :)
Well as for my photos,contrary to my expectations, some of my pics did infact end up getting displayed :D. This was the first time i have had photos printed. Was a little apprehensive about the PP first, but the results turned out really good!

I expected names against the photographs there. atleast some credit to you guys with list of names who captured all those great smiles. anyways you can tag your or others' photos if you know, so we will know who clicked which photographs.

Good to see great captures from P@P members.
Agree with Manik, that names of photographers, locality, etc should have been displayed.
Surprisingly, also saw a few candids, which were not as per their ealier plan I guess.

I really missed these 3 days as I was at my hometown for Diwali. But thanks to guys who have captured some of the displayed photographs.
I was able to find some 15 clicks of mine on the wall. :-)

I must congratulate Sakal Group and Photographers@Pune for this wonderful and successful event. I summarize the event as follows.
1) This was the first time Sakal associated with P@P for the 1000smiles concept.
2) Publicized well. Hence smiling faces were much cooperative.
3) 30-40 photographers, one day and 15 locations was a unique idea.
4) Well supported by the P@P as a group. Members participation was encouraging.
5) Well coordinated by Milind Wadekar and members of the group.
6) Members could deliver what Sakal wanted in record time frame (1000 photos in 3 days).
7) Exhibition hall was well arranged and lighting was impressive.
8) Print quality was one of the best in category.
However few things were not of my taste.
1) No responsible person, except couple of private security guards from Sakal was present at the venue when I visited there on Saturday afternoon 4:00pm. May be because of work exigencies.
2) Dust on the photographs on Day-2 itself :-(
3) Few photos were *horribly* cropped (heads, ears, chins chopped off) disturbing the photographers' vision or composition.
Never the less, exhibition was big hit and we look forward more of such joint events from Sakal and Photogrpahers@Pune.

.. and no credits to photographer and group .. which I feel was the most important thing. It would have been win-win situation for Sakal and group if appropriate credits were given as shoot was completely free for Sakal. Cannot fathom why they missed it as it a common protocol to give credits.
