Speedlight football
I separated with some $ earlier on in the week and bought some new lenses and my very first speedlight. A Nikon SB-900.
Yesterday evening I used it for the very first time. Well, use is a loose interpretation. Let's just say I read the instruction manual and had a play.
While I had the rig set up on a tripod, and was talking to some friends in the twilight I noticed in my peripheral vision some movement. As I turned around, my brand new, fired 3 times Speedlight fell from the camera towards the concrete (the very HARD concrete might I add).
Let me just say, that I took a glorious mark of said Speedlight that would have put Tony Lockett or Jason Dunstall to shame in their heydays. My body went on the line, and the concrete....but damn, what a catch!
Lessons learnt:
1) do not use new equipment for the first time with a zillion people around while you try and read the instruction manual.
2) do not use new equipment for the first time while being plied with alcohol
3) when reading the instructions for new equipment, read them all first
4) when using your brand new Speedlight, that funky little lock switch? Yeah it's there for a reason....use the bloody thing!
I still don't know how I caught that thing! Maybe the Easter Bunny was looking after me?

oh my I held my breath while reading that! I bet you are going to be sore tomorrow- from the reaction catch alone.
I dropped a new lens on a slate floor once .. it survived I will never know how!!

I think my neighbours just heard my loud gasp of horror I made while reading this....
thank god for quick, even when alcohol dimmed, reflexes
