I have a crop-sensor, and I have realized I can't get wide enough on 17mm for some of the shots I want (mountains and reflections). So I have been thinking about getting one of the following two lenses:
Tokina 11-16mm
Nikon 10-24mm
These both take 77mm filters. What I would like to know is, will they vignette at any focal length with only the Lee filter holder system using the standard 77mm Lee adapter (I do not have the wide angle one, unfortunately)? No other filters will be between the Lee system and the lens.

It's a strong possibility that they will, though I have no experience of these lenses. I use the Sigma 1020mm with the 77mm super wide-angle adaptor and get no vignetting. Don't know what body camera you're using but the sigma is definitely worth considering for super wide angle work.

Well I have the Tokina 11-16, have used Lee filters and have not had any issues with vigneting. I use the 77mm wide-angle adaptor. I have a Canon 7D (x1.6).

Hi Chris,
If I understand you well you also use a CP and you get no vignetting at 10mm. Could you describe in (more) detail how do you mount a CP on such a setup and which CP are you using.
Thanks a lot !

Hi Chris, if you are somewhere around please drop in and please answer the question above. It would help a lot. Thanks, Marko.

Can't help you on that!
I have been using a wide angle adapter with no problems at 17mm on full format, but I never tried the standard edition.

What about the Lee Filter hood on the Tokina 11-16? I love the lens but it's a bit of a monster for flare and needs a hood. Any experience with the Lee Wide Angle Hood and the Tokina 11-16?

Luca: but how do you combine your setup with a polarizer to prevent vignetting at 17mm ? (FX).

I got the tokina 11-16 and only when putting 3 filters in front screwed on a polarizer I get slight vignetting. But thats no big issue!

I usually don't use the polarizer combined to the GND's... Anyway, I seldom use the polarizer at really short focal lengths, since the different polarization of the sky creates too strong tonal gradients (for my tastes).
I think the best solution would be to use the 105mm Lee or Heliopan polarizers, which are pretty damn expensive, but give you the advantage of varying the polarization without making the GND's turn around while you do that. (like when you use a traditional screw on polarizer and then screw the GNDs on that)
Hope this helps.

@fe64...: I have the tokina11-16 on my canon eos 40d
- Then a hoya HD polarizer
- Then the filter-holder from lee with 3 slots
- Then up to 3 filters
Vignetting shows a bit in the corners but that's only with 11mm. It's noticable in the sky but there a simple cloning usually helps with it. If you turn the holter to odd angles the vignetting might increase a bit.
But for me it's ok, either I got to 12 mm or I do a simple cloing in the corners... I'll check my archives and post a link to an example image next week.. quite buisy now and on the road this weekend
cheers

Thanks for the reply. So you simply screw in the Hoya polarizer in the lens thread ?

Yes, the hoya HD is very flat and sturdy. I then have no problems using the lee fitler holder in front of it

My setup is 5D2, 1635L, 82mm WA ring, 2 filter with Heliopan slim SH-PMC CPL. it works fine @ 20mm

kmdd: With your set-up (I envy), will it vignette at 16mm? From your post, I take it that it does vignette from 16-19mm (as you have made no mention about it) and "works fine" at 20mm. Could you please clarify, thanks.
I am in the process of researching and getting a 105mm CPL; do not own the 1635L yet but is certainly on my short list, hence my question to have all bases covered. Like you, I have a FF 5D.

Just received my Lee Foundation kit plus the Professional upgrade kit to use the 4x4 CPL and wanted to see how wide I could go before vignetting occurred.
The test is based on my Tokina 11-16 on the Canon 550D using the 77mm wide angle adapter (sorry no standard adapter ring).
There is no vignetting at 11mm with only the foundation kit and three filter slots available.
With two slots installed on the Lee holder (one usable) + the pro kit, vignetting clears up at 13mm. Using three slots (two usable) + the pro kit, vignetting starts fairly severely but is barely visible at 13mm and mostly clears by 14mm.
Justin, to answer your question...yes, you will get vignetting at the widest settings if you use the standard rather than wide-angle adapter.
I have a Sigma 10-20 with a 77mm Lee wide angle adapter and it works great at 10mm with no vignetting.
I also have a Nikon 18-70 (67mm threads) and a 67 Lee standard adapter, and I get vignetting up to about 22 or 23 mm. I am thinking that I might be able to get a 67-77mm step up ring and therefore be able to use my 77 wide-angle adapter with the 67mm threads on the 18-70 lens. It would be a lot cheaper than purchasing a second wide-angle adapter

I just found this, so thought I would post my findings on the subject
I have a Nikon D7000 (cropped sensor) and when using the LEE filter system (Wide Angle Adaptor) with two filter slots using the 105mm SLIM Heliopan Polarizing Filter I get vignetting at 11+12mm and only when using the polarizer, its fine with all other Grads and ND's right down to 11mm
I just whack it up to 13mm when using the polariser ;-)
Apparently if you just use 1 filter slot you don't get any vignetting, but I really need 2 slots to be honest.
It would be ideal if you could screw the polariser on first and then the filters :-)

I use the sigma 10-20mm with 82mmWA ring and above 14mm I don't see any evidence of vignetting in the viewfinder (i do below 14mm) but the taken shot clearly shows vignetting and quite severely after long exposures. Anyway else had this problem?
