How To Get The Most Out of Flickr
If you’re here to store your photos and share with friends/family you’ll want to:
Set Up Albums
Albums are, as you’d imagine, a collection of images. Where some sites have you create albums and then add photos to them, Flickr works in reverse. Images first, then add them to an album. Albums do not have a limit and you can add images to them later if you’re organizing based on a theme of photos instead of a specific date, event, location, or vacation, etc. You can easily batch upload your photos and then add them to albums in the upload steps, or add photos to albums in bulk in CameraRoll.
Update Your Privacy/Share Settings
If you have any concerns over privacy there are many ways to control who sees what. Ensure your Privacy Settings are as you wish in your Settings. If you are a Pro member and automatically upload, all photos will be set private by default. If you wish them to be public you can manually select the photos in CameraRoll and change from Private to Public. If you wish to share private photos simply create an album with the photos and click the arrow icon to share it. The photos will only be visible to those with whom you share the album. For all other Flickr members they will remain private.
Organize Your Photos
Organizing your photos into albums is the easiest way to store many photos and locate them easily. Use albums to categorize them by date, location, or subject matter. A photo can exist in multiple albums. So, for example, if you took a super cute portrait of your daughter at the beach you can add the photo to a “Family Beach Vacation 2017” album AND a “Suzy’s Cutest Faces” album. That way you don’t have to spend hours digging through your photos to try and find that one super adorable picture for her birthday party invite.
Help
If you ever need help or assistance with a specific feature on a site, have an issue, or are confused by anything there is a very active group of users and staff in the Flickr Help Forum. You can search topics to see if your question has been asked/answered before, you can start a new thread, or you can add in on an existing thread if it relates to that topic.
Now start uploading and sharing your awesome photos with those you love!
