Flickrstream - order your photos by taken date by \/al
  • Flickrstream - order your photos by taken date by \/al
  • Flickr Sorter by \/al
Update: Flickr has locked the ability to have an upload date earlier than your account creation date. This means that all your photos with a taken date ealier than your account creation one won't be sort out.

A simple and cool application using the Flickr API to order your photos (main photostream) by taken date instead of upload date. This way they are displayed chronologically.

flickrstream.webzardry.com

You can restrict the batch by set, tags, or dates.

Note that you can't undo it since the upload date will be lost after applying the modification.

Have fun

has anybody used this? do you know if it will break all my links? i have the majority of the photos in my photoblog already, and i don't want all the links to break or it will take me a mighty long time to replace them all!

It won't affect your links. Links are base on the photos ID not the photos dates. So your links are safe!

I've used it. It seems to do exactly what it says it will.

I used it for one very large set (600+ photos). The set was in the right order, but those photos uploaded crazily into my photostream. With this app, I was able to get them sorted out correctly, and very easily.

I love it! I was just about to whip up some code to do this & lo and behold it exists.

Thanks a ton; it worked like a charm. My last upload to Flickr got some pictures "out of order" and this put them back :-)

It isn't working for me... Why?. Nothing happens!.

Please, help

Thanks!

\/al says:

@musicampo: what do you mean by "nothing happen"? No errors at all? First try on one single photo using its ID then if it works use sets or tag or the whole stream.

Not cool... This app somehow modified the "Uploaded date".

It bothers me that some of my photos are now having details taken and uploaded on the same date (sample May 8, 2009) but I'm 100% sure there was NO chance for me on to access internet on that date.

\/al says:

@reyscastro: it's the only way to order your photos. Do you find 'upload date' somehow interesting ?

Instead of organizing by date taken it decided to organize by the type of camera used to take the photos. Is there a way to reverse this?

This does not solve the problem of people being able to re-order their Photostream without changing each individual photo. What good is it ?
With this, you just change each taken date INDIVIDUALLY, instead of the posting date. What good is that ? People are asking for code to batch change posting dates, not this ?

How do I find the "photoset id" or "Photo id". I'm not 100% sure what that is. Is it the URL?

I'd appreciate your help here.
I tested the application using a tag and yes it worked, but now I'd like to do a whole set. I assume that it'll change the upload date of my photos to the same as the "date taken" of my photos, right?
Posted 52 months ago. ( permalink )

view profile

\/al says:

It does exactly what you said.

Remember that photos taken before your Flickr account creation won't be sorted because of Flickr API limitations.

Yes photoset and photos id can be extracted from the URL. For example, for one of your photoset: www.flickr.com/photos/clintonfowler/sets/7215 7625655870823/, the photoset id is 72157625655870823.

Then one of your photo: https://www.flickr.com/photos/clintonfowler/5 337945125/ where 5337945125 is the photo id.

Hope it helps.

Great idea, but since this upload date is blocked for edits by Flickr this did not workout for me. Anyway I think photostream by upload date is not very good with several cameras shooting date is better. I used the betaapp pixel pipe for transfer from picasa. This upload order could be changed by them also.

is there a way to process sets automatically, instead of groups of 100 pictures each time?

any recommendation for sorting pre-flickr acount pictures?

johnallen2003 says:

I'm uploading scans from photo negatives. The shooting order is clear from the negative numbers, which are reflected in the filenames for the scans, but the scans weren't done in the order the pictures were taken, and the "date taken" is the date scanned. What I want to do is reorder the images within a set in the order of the filename, so the images appear in chronological order in the set. Can you make this happen?

Can you add the feature to set "uploaded date" to some defined (editable in GUI) date?

It will be helpful for sorting sets for which upload date should be earlier than account creation date. We can use a fake (artificial) date but at least it will be possible to sort such sets. The date can be a very early valid date.

FYI: if you upload non-photo recorded images without a "taken date" of course this will not work ; images made in Photoshop, snap-shots of video frames, etc.

PS: Nice app, thanx !

PS2: Just noticed in "Organizer" that this app does not over-write the "upload date" to the "taken date"...so with that said, it is possible to organize photos in Flickr by "taken date"...so why doesn't Flickr offer this sort feature especially when a 3rd party app can access it ?
