This species moves in flock through dense low vegetation in the rainforest looking for insects and fruits. Usually make a lot of noise by whistling and churring to each other, to maintain contact. They moves fast, glimpsed in low flight can give overall olive appearance despite bright colours. Found in montane forest above 900m, especially forest edge, montane roadsides, tea estates and montane gardens. This species is consider ‘jewel’ of the highlands, is certainly one of the most attractive of the hill station birds. It often comes to hill station gardens to feed on scraps of food thrown on the ground and in drains.
