Cabaceira Grande, Moçambique: Palácio de Verão do Governador
Cabaceira Grande is one of the oldest Portuguese settlements on the Mozambican mainland at the edge of the mangrove-lined shore of Mossuril Bay, just across from Mozambique Island.
The former summer palace of the Captain-General of Mozambique is located just steps behind the shore. This magnificent two-story structure was built in 1765; it features large rooms, balconies (like the one in view here) and a large garden. The building is abandoned today, and the interior has been stripped of any useful materials. The building is decaying, and first signs of collapse are evident.
