This young Roadrunner paused briefly along the shoreline of Lake Dardanelle for a portrait. Nearly always on the move, the predator hunts for lizards, snakes, frogs, insects, etc.

Along with the Lesser Roadrunner, it is one of two species in the roadrunner genus Geococcyx. This roadrunner is also known as the chaparral cock, ground cuckoo, and snake killer.
