The Divine Mr. Leonard Cohen

The great man himself,

I took a series of photos of him

out on Pico Boulevard

in the heart of the Pico flats

here in this vast Los Angeles

that is my home and his.

I was happy that I did get one

that showed him smiling (which

I have posted here for you

my flickr friends),

but in this one he gave me that

intense stare - that stare of

the ages,

the pure genius and poetry

and grace

and wisdom

of the streets and stages

and hotel rooms

that is his and his alone

- and here you are.

As he wrote,

"I'm junk but i'm holding up this

little wild bouquet/democracy is coming

to the



"If I knew where the great

songs came from," he told me,

"I'd go there more often.

It's quite like the life of a

Catholic nun;

you're married to a mystery." *
