The Magic Light

I know that this particular shot of the Tsemo Namgyal Gompa from the Shanti Stupa has been done to death by nearly every visitor who has ever been to Leh with a camera..

But there is something compelling about the light and its effect on the surrounding mountains of the Stok Range which never fails to catch my attention on every visit to Leh..

I end up spending at least one afternoon (usually the first) shooting from the Stupa waiting for the light play to commence as the cloud shadows scud across the ridges, the colors change nearly every minute and by the time the sun drops out of view the colors slowly seep out you are left replete with the beauty of it all. Its enchanting and casts a spell that makes you yearn to return to this quaint land again and again.
