Hà Nội, Vietnam, 2008 - Leica M7, Elmarit 90, Fuji Reala

Last year I decided to include at least one photograph about the Vietnam war or rather the American war in Vietnam in the batch of 100 pictures symbolizing subjectively the Vietnamese people for the challenging photobook Vietnamese We - Người Việt Nam chúng tôi - Nous autres Vietnamiens. How could I talk about my compatriots without evoking this horrible war and its outcomes? This moving image shot in Hanoi in 2008 came to my mind. I wouldn't select this capture without the interesting contrast between the undercarriage wreckage part of a B52 plane in the foreground and the two women chatting in the background, and the harmonious colors. Green with its numerous subtle variations is IMHO the magic color of my native country. I deliberately chose gray-green as the main color of this art book. In most cultures, green has been often associated to rebirth and hope. Is it destiny?
