Laura Welcher talking about the Rosetta project at Long Now

There are approximately 7000 languages in the world. Every 2 weeks, we lose another one. The top 300 languages account for the primary language of 95% of the world's population, and only the top 20 - 30 have large text corpora for archiving and analysis.

 

Rosetta's ongoing mission is to collect texts for the rest of the languages before they disappear.
