Calling this a fullfilling day or disaster day? I don't know.
I lost 5 peacock bass due to poor hook up and one even took my one and only Rapala Countdown Flourescent Green, snapped my line and took off. I saw it again back in its nest with the lure hanging on its lips, made a few attempts to catch it but failed, and saw it vanished in the murky waters.
Lots of sightings in shallow water, the PB were nesting everywhere, it seemed. While still upset about my lost lure which is already out of stock everywhere. That much needed break through finally came. There was this pair of PB that were huge (by standard in this reservoir, not comparing those cousins in Amazon River) nesting and looking aggressive. Just 3 passes and this male hit my Rapala Countdown Grey Silver with a hard bang and took off like a bullet train. A really hard fight and the "spouse fish" was chasing behind. AS joined my to pursue the "spouse fish" while I landed this biggie. It weigh 1.25kg and measured 43cm !! What an achievement! this is my largest record at this reservior.
This biggie was released nunharmed and upon examining my battled lure, one of the treble hooks was straightened, see below. Those original Rapala hooks that came with the lure are not strong, time to change them all, before i regret losing another biggie.
Lost lure ? so what? I caught the largest personal best.
