Taken during a visit to The Doc Porter Museum of Telephone History organized by www.HoustonPhotowalks.com.
The Museum has been around since 1966; though it has been relocated on a couple of occasions it is currently in the Heights area but that might very well change soon. I learned on my visit that their current building has already been sold and they have no place to relocate to (and very little funds to do the actual relocation). You can read more about it here.
The Museum has a very large collection of pieces related to the history of telephony, ranging from a replica of the first telephone, to the first switchboards and instruments and many styles of telephones. Also, the volunteers that were there over our tour were ex-employees from the telephone industry so they had inside knowledge of the systems and devices and really enhanced the experience. It is definitively a very worthy place to visit specially if there is a possibility that it might not be around for much longer.
